![]() The scenery is breathtaking no matter where you are on the lake or lodge area. Food was excellent!!! The coffee bar at the lodge was A-1 in my book! Coffee was delicious as was the scones & cookies. We immensely enjoyed our breakfast and dinner at the Lodge. The bed was soft and the kitchenette area was very nice. My boyfriend & I stayed at Burntside Lodge for the first time and it will not be our last. If you've never been to northern Minnesota and would like to sample the best it has to offer, you can't do better than Burntside Lodge. Full cabin cleaning service is also available at an extra cost. The larger (3 bedroom) cabins have full kitchens, refrigerators, all the cooking utensils and tableware a family would need, and are provided fresh linens three times a week. Each has its own personality and character, with varying degrees of refinements. ![]() The main dining room features an excellent menu of well-prepared selections while the bar/lounge has a tasty bar menu (as well as access to the dining room menu if you are in the mood for a more casual setting.) Service is always personable and prompt, provided by knowledgable and friendly wait staff. The food and drink options are impressive for such a remote location. We are thankful that Burntside still eschews telephones and televisions in the cabins, although they do now provide free wifi access throughout the Lodge grounds. Favorite activities range from a quiet afternoon reading a book on the dock (or in the cabin or lounge on a rainy afternoon), a myriad of on-the water activities available through the well-stocked marina, swimming in the naturally protected beach area, taking a steaming sauna and leaping into the cool waters of the spectacularly beautiful Burntside Lake, or watching the stars, satellites and northern lights on a clear night. It is truly unique in its ability to combine an impeccable rustic cabin resort experience with outstanding hospitality, fine dining and a breath-takingly beautiful natural environment. Our family has been coming to Burntside Lodge for over 50 years. Happy 100th Burntside ! Long may you shine I Love this place, we'll be back much sooner. What more could one ask for ? We got it, a clear night during the Perseid Meteor Shower, what a place to view on the end of the dock. Food Great, cabins squeaky clean and historic, great staff and owners, on a great lake near the BWCA. The staff couldn't be better, they recommended a great day hike to Dry Falls on Bass Lake that had 3 routes depending on the length of hike desired, what a great recommendation. That's what I love about Ely, the official end of the road, and darn close to the town known as the coldest spot lower 48. ![]() We were lucky enough to hit a 75 degree day, last time we were in Ely it was for dogsledding and it was 38 below real temp. Head into Ely, catch a brew at the Boathouse, visit the Wolf and or Bear center. This place is truly a one of a kind historic location, your directly across from the BWCA so you can rent a canoe and feel like your deep in the wilderness, yet return to the lodge for a 5 star meal and soft bed. What a wonderful spot, Burntside may be the only place you can stay in 100 year old log cabins and not feel like your roughing it. Because frankly we planned not to cook and take in some of our favorite spots in Ely that are usually closed in Winter. We spent 3 days in a smaller unit this time, #3. Not sure why it took so long, but when we noticed Burnside was celebrating it's 100th anniversary we had to get back. This was not our first stay at Burntside, about 9 years ago we spent a last September weekend at Burnside with friends and vowed we would return.
